Apace Systems deploys its Post Production Storage and Media Asset Management workflow for PBS

ORANGE, Calif., Apace Systems Corporation®, a leading media workflow and storage solution provider for all media, announces a comprehensive well integrated workflow media asset management workflow for PBS stations.

Apace Systems has been shipping its comprehensive and well integrated single platform storage solution vStor for 6 years. Over the last year Apace has combined the power of the vStor (an enterprise class Scalable Specialty Media Storage Platform) with a Web 2.0 browser based media asset management called postMAM, by Apace. The result is a stellar success as users now have shared realtime video editing between multiple edit bays, built in FTP and multi TB OnLine Archive and a powerful MAM+ on a "Single" server. Apace postMAM is more than just a MAM as it is designed for Post Production workflow which requires more than just MAM.

As a part of its cooperation with TV Pro Gear, a well established system integration solution provider, and IEEI.TV, Apace's Gold Channel partner, Apace has deployed its media asset management and post production storage workflow for PBS Hawaii.

"Apace's integrated workflow has been a very comprehensive and easy to use solution suite enabling us to be up and running in no time." said Mr. Paul Hayashida, Production Manager, PBS Hawaii.

"We were delighted to see a tailored MAM+ workflow that is targeted for the Broadcast post production environment and takes into consideration the need of our customers from ingest, to creation, to proxy generation, to storage consolidation, to access and distribution of their content all from a self contained platform. Our customers are equally ecstatic with ease of use." said, Vince Castell from TV Pro Gear.

"Apace has been a reliable solutions provider and partner focused on our customers media market needs and over the years as a team we have deployed hundreds of TB of storage with them. As a team we have listened to our customers and Apace has built the tools to meet their needs, while keeping the technology simple and easy to use. It has been and continues to be a great honor to help "Rich Media" clients including PBS stations solve problems and do more with the Apace tools" said Mr. Dennis Bress President/CEO of IEEI.TV

PBS Hawaii is using Apple Final Cut Studio edit bays and had a need for an easy to manage collaborative post production workflow with a well integrated media asset management workflow. Apace vStor with postMAM solution was deemed a perfect solution due to its following core functionality:

  1. - Browser based MAM with support for Flash play out in form of IP based playlist.
  2. - Interoperability of postMAM to support Apple Final cut AND other PC based workflows and applications.
  3. - Global access to the media through postMAM.
  4. - Integration of collaborative editing and MAM offering a single server storage that houses all the raw and proxy footage for consumption and access.
  5. - The workflow blends in with NLE and Tape based workflows offering the option of consolidation and availability of not only work in process NLE content but, re-introducing and digitizing old PBS tapes and making them available online for consumption / repurposing.
  6. - The ability to share media and do realtime collaborative video editing between multiple Apple FCP Studio edit bays while having simple folders represent media and project locations. Standard vStor features include the ability to create editor workspaces and assign editors access rights to each workspace. Each editor's workspace can be dynamically increased in capacity on the fly with no need for data movement.

The opportunity for this solution suite is that given its global reach it can allow any sister PBS station the ability to see, comment and or download any of their authorized "Locals only" Hawaiian video content. With VPN, user name and password, this authorized video library can be accessed via IP web based browser by any PBS station in the USA and can get the best Hawaiian video footage directly from the source... PBS Hawaii.

In addition this means any other PBS station with the same set of tools can also share their authorized "Locals only" media with other sister PBS stations in the same way. Think of the power for example to have breaking news video, shot by the local PBS station, available to all PBS stations. You now have the best footage available and can tell better stories.

Another additional piece of technology available to PBS stations is Apace's global remote rough cut video editing enabling not only remote access to content but the opportunity to rough cut edit, partial restore, collaborate and communicate on media content for production and re-distribution. This solution suite is an option to postMAM and it is called ViEW.

Apace Systems will showcase its integrated workflows at PBS Technology Conference at Apace Booth #304 16th, 17th April, and at NAB 2009 Las Vegas Nevada, April 20-23rd, 2009, at Apace booth #SL9426
